I look at this post and think “WEAK…”
When I was a kid I was 100% serious about cats. And I don’t mean when I was in high school, I mean when I was 5. I went around telling people I can understand and speak cat. I walked on all fours meowing and chirping and hissing at my pet cats. I demanded mom to put my breakfast cereal bowl on the floor so I can eat like a cat. Every time there was a costume party I dressed up as a cat. I’ve got photos from afterparty photoshoots of me grouching on tree branches in a cat costume mom had to make overnight for a party because nothing else would do for me.
I had a cat of my own and we let her have kittens. At age 8 I was an expert at cat genetics and would chart out family trees and genotypes of all my cats and the neighbourhood cats. Officially they only taught that level of biology to 16 year olds but I learned first hand. No human
had to teach me about the birds and the bees either, I learned from cats. I was a midwife to dozens of kittens. Cats made single moms and double moms and gay uncles and polyamory seem perfectly normal to me in a small village of conservative people. Cats taught me to respect boundaries and to say goodbye and be happy about it. Cats taught me how to grieve.
People joke about their cats bringing them dead animals as a gift because humans can’t hunt. Fuck that, in my cat family the cats only gave dead prey to kittens because they knew I was competent. I was the one giving the cats dead (and sometimes alive and wounded) mice and birds. Often I went fishing just to give the cats nice fresh fish.

Even now I sometimes feel like I understand cat expressions and vocalisations better than human interactions. It baffles me when people can’t read a cat’s mood.
